A croqué le fruit étrange was composed between 2015 and 2019. It is a very personal EP, which gathers all the influences of the artist: jazz, electronic music, and concrete music.
We can find her passion for field recording, these sounds captured from the environment, transformed or left as they are, assembled into rhythms, creating organic textures and an atmosphere specific to each track.
The voice is intimate, central, but also considered as a material in the same way as the other sounds. It is stretched, looped, reversed, reduced to the size of a grain, destroyed, in order to constitute a sound texture or to replace an instrument, to suggest a word, to give birth to a rhythm...
Amélie Nilles expresses here her desire for freedom, in the unfolding of time, in the changing metrics and in the choice of sound material. The instruments are not always where you expect them to be, the field recording becomes melody, she likes to reverse the roles and create surprise.
A croqué le fruit étrange is an invitation to slowly enter into the experimental universe of the artist, both dark and pop, unspeakable.
